Last season’s Cup Series event in Grande Prairie played a crucial role in shaping the 2023 title race.
Going a perfect 3-for-3, Dakota Buttar won the PBR Peace Country Invitational, vaulting to the No. 1 position in Canada. The win, however, came at a painful price as Buttar sustained a sidelining injury, broken collarbone, when exiting his winning ride in the championship round. Following his victory, Buttar did not compete until the 2023 National Finals, missing the final month of the regular season and slipping to No. 3 in the standings. Showing no rust at the 2023 PBR Canada National Finals, Buttar went a perfect 4-for-4, tying for second at the year-end event, to make a come-from-behind surge for the record books and be crowned the 2023 PBR Canada Champion, earning the first-ever $100,000 Champions bonus.
Buttar concluded the campaign 38.84 points ahead of 2022 PBR Canada Champion and current Canadian No. 1 Nick Tetz.
This season, both Buttar and Tetz will seek glory in Grande Prairie, hopeful it will help catapult them to the 2024 title.
